I disagree, there is nothing particularly wrong in using bushings this way, for example this is the OEM Nissan engine mount for the Skyline GT-R: 
Our own OEM engine mounts are actually the same way. Actually when the engine torques, there is a transfer of weight, but the bushing is not actually "pulled"... the bushing is usually under compression with the engine sitting on it, so what happens is a relief of compression rather than actual tension. My evaluation is that it is a sound design (unlike their upper arms), and I have been using the Noltec motor mounts on my Z for almost a year now...
